Sell Out Concert at Denley Hall, Bishop’s Cleeve - 10th May

Our reputation seemed to have preceded us when we arrived to see “Sold Out” notices outside the Hall. It’s great for the Choir to be able to get the audience involved. It makes for a very different atmosphere to our bigger male voice choir concert venues such as Tewkesbury Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral. Everyone made us feel welcome and we look forward to returning. A great night!

Roger Western is awarded Life Membership

First tenor Roger Western (pictured on the right), receives the honour of Life Membership from Musical Director, Martin Dear ...
"in recognition by his friends of his many years of loyal service as a singer with The Cotswold Male Voice Choir."

Roger sings with two male voice choirs in Gloucestershire and has done so for many years. When asked just how many years he has sung with The Cotswold Male Voice Choir, Roger answered “I’m not sure, but you can work it out because it was three months before the Choir went to Annecy for the first time, years ago.” (16th April 2008)

History of The Cotswold Male Voice Choir
The Cotswold Male Voice Choir was formed in 1949 and has become a well known part of the music scene in the Midlands and the South West. The choir was recently described on radio as “A happy band of singers who put on great male voice choir shows and also have a successful social life.” (More)

Choir Tours and Highlights
In addition to many local events including concerts at Tewkesbury Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral, in the past year the Choir has performed in the French Alps at Annecy (see photos below), in Wales with three Welsh choirs, in York’s Guildhall at the invitation of the Mayor, and twice at the Malvern Music Festivals.

Something for Everyone
The choir sings a broad repertoire including male voice choir favourites, classic and operatic, big show numbers and popular music.

 Charity Concerts
The majority of Cotswold Male Voice Choir concerts support good causes. Over the years, this has accounted for many thousands of pounds raised for charities.

Weddings and Corporate Events
More recently, the Choir began singing at corporate events and at weddings, entertaining the congregation before the arrival of the bride and during the signing of the register. The male voice singers also lend a powerful hand to the singing of the hymns.  This has proved very popular.

All Together Now ... “The Hills are Alive”
Some choir members pictured with the Mont Blanc glacier in the background, safely back on the ground after a very high cable car ride. Not being very brave, they only went halfway up the mountain.
